I’m sure lots of us have a soft spot for the 1970 film adaptation of “The Railway Children” But did you know you can know see the stage version at a real station?
The Railway Children was originally staged by York Theatre Royal in partnership with the National Railway Museum in 2008, and ran for two packed summer seasons on location at the museum in York.
In 2010, the production transferred to Waterloo Station, playing to sell out houses in the former Eurostar terminal.
Returning in 2011, the show won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment before crossing the Atlantic and opening in Toronto, Canada.
Now returning to London, this time at King’s Cross Station, the extraordinary production of The Railway Children is enchanting and entertaining audiences anew in a purpose built theatre.
And we at Team Refrigeration have been helping out.
As the theatre is a purpose built venue on an old part of the station at Kings Cross they realised that they would need facilities to store chilled supplies for the kiosk and bar. So they called in the experts, Team Refrigeration.
There was an added difficulty in that they only had a standard 240v power supply available, so the traditional three phase units couldn’t be used. We were happy to provide one of our brand new 10ft single phase refrigerated containers.
The production is set to run throughout the summer and maybe even longer
